Cross-play between Switch and Xbox
Posted by Link - June 22, 2018

Today was a day of big announcements between Nintendo and Microsoft, honestly I am one who will clearly state that I hate everything about Minecraft.....that being said Nintendo of America had posted on twitter about how Minecraft players on the Nintendo Switch can play with their friends (or themselves) on the Xbox One, together between both consoles in the same world. THIS is big for anyone who is an avid gamer on both consoles as it may unlock future cross-play and/or shared game modes on future games to come out on both consoles.

You can even unlock XBOX Live Achievements for accomplishing stuff on the Nintendo version of Minecraft. Here is to hoping that Nintendo will give us Achievements/Trophies or something of the nature on the Switch soon.

Miitomo closes its servers
Posted by Dlink - May 11, 2018

Miitomo will end its service at 12:00 AM (PDT) on 5/9/2018, and we want to thank you for your support since the Miitomo app's launch.

Apparently the first mobile application developed by Nintendo came to an end today May 9, 2018. What was initially one of the most downloaded applications of 2016, today is not supported by the number of people still using it, which caused Nintendo to close their servers.

As a way to thank the users who were active until the end, there was a series of events where you could take a last picture with all the friends you had.

Nintendo hiring future Zelda level designers
Posted by Kaynil - May 09, 2018

Apparently, the news started with a tweet from BlackKite that showed a capture of the advert, a link to it and the following synopsis:

Nintendo is hiring a level designer for The Legend of Zelda series. Will create events/dungeons/fields/enemies from design to actual implementation. Should have game planner experience on console games & can communicate in Japanese.

Then IGN and other media outlets quickly confirmed everything. With a web translator we too can get the gist of the recruitment notice. I've attached the capture of webpage and a capture of Google translated version of it in the thread with this news so feel free to click the title to head to our forums and have a look at it.

It is an important find, as even though no game has been announced the mere fact of Nintendo scouting for talent to work in the Zelda franchises while at the same time offering a temporary contract that will only be renewed until the project is completed, which signal us to an specific new game. As an interesting side note, a comment by BlackKite to address someone's conjecture to this be for a Zelda smartphone game explains that term used in the form makes it more likely that they refer to proper console gaming.

I can recall that some months ago Grezzo posted what was heavily implied to be a Zelda recruitment notice. Whether this is related or they are working in two different projects is left to be seen.

Nintendo announces Switch Online & More

Switch Online logo

As unveiled today, Nintendo has finally revealed the plans regarding their upcoming subscription-based online service: Nintendo Switch Online.

Within the details of announcement was a bit of an unexpected surprise: 20 NES games are going to be available on launch of the service that will be included in the monthly subscription. According to Nintendo, these 20 games will all have added online multiplayer capabilities, cooperative and/or competitive! Among these titles is the original Legend of Zelda!

However, despite the news of the NES games being including with their new online platform, Nintendo has announced that they will not be bringing the Virtual Console to the Nintendo Switch[1], as has been done on previous platforms. This news game as a bit of a shock to the community, as seen throughout the respective Nintendo subreddits, but many hope that this is Nintendo taking the opportunity to rethink and rebrand classic gameplay -- the NES game selection coming to their online service may be an example of such.

What are your thoughts on this announcement? My personal opinion is that while it is wonderful we're finally getting saves on the Switch, it still makes Nintendo the only current-gen console that doesn't offer a free method of preserving your saves[2]...I don't think you should have to pay a subscription to a monthly service to have the peace of mind knowing your hard work is safely backed up. Additionally, despite my excitement of NES games with online play, I feel a bit worried... With them axing the Virtual Console platform I worry they could be ignoring their consumers desires and throw away any plans to have older games playable on the Switch. I personally have always dreamed of having a centralized Nintendo hub where I can play their games from any point in their history without needing to carry decades worth of equipment and hardware, even if it forces me to repurchase the games digitally.

What did you guys think of it?
Undertale, Okami and Crash Bandicoot beingbpirted.
Mario Tennis Ace, Splatoon 2 DLC, octopath's special edition... Luigi's mansion port to the 3ds...

What about the smash reveal?
And with it, this roster reveal:

Do you think this smash is a Delux like the mariokart8 and HW definitive edition?
If so would this Link be a reskin or its own slot?

Happy New Year!
Posted by Kaynil - January 01, 2018

Wow, so much happened last year and yet 2017 went by so fast. As Zelda fans it was pretty eventful.

We got reprints of Zelda Mangas with some colored pages. New Zelda Merchandise and of course a brand new Zelda game that was built under the premise of breaking the franchise paradigms

I am really looking forward to this year! Thank you all on behalf of Zelda Cavern's staff!
